Umberslade Nurseries is part of QAC Enterprises Ltd, owned by Queen Alexandra College, a national college for people with disabilities. We run the gardening nursery and tea rooms in Birmingham to give work experience to people with learning difficulties and disabilities. Our students take part in horticultural and social enterprises and learn the nuances of hospitality by working in a tea room. Our students produce 90% of our stock, the profits of which go back to support our young learners with disabilities. To find out more about Queen Alexandra College, visit

Based in Selly Oak, Birmingham, you can visit our garden centre and enjoy our small retail outlet, tea room and other horticultural facilities. Our enterprise provides a wonderful opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience and learn to be independent thinkers.

At our nursery, we seek to provide students between the ages of 16 - 25 years appropriate education and employment opportunities. We teach our students valuable life lessons through our focused training through our Preparation for Life and Independence Plus course. They play a key role in maintaining, planting and harvesting our produce, learning about horticulture and experiencing the outdoor environment.
